"Sweet Potato Pie" with Baker's Son

I’m working on a short video for Keith Magruder aka Baker’s Son. The video will be a portrait into his recent stuff as a watercolor artist working in 3D.
Keith is a pretty private dude. So TBH, I don’t think he’s ever talked about himself or his work publicly. Two birds one stone is the goal - so I’m hoping to capture what fuels him as an artist and help promote the hats he’s dropping next week. Let’s hope I body his project. Stay tune.

For now , here are some behind the scene shots I took on my phone. Video drops next week.

Designed a Cover for Barstool Sports

I designed a couple covers for a new podcast about basketball drama launching on Barstool called This League. Since the project was so quick - 15 mins quick, we swiftly made the decision to draw inspiration from the famous 90’s game NBAJAM. Check out some of the iterations below.

PS. I figured out a quick way to build 3D type and adding a colorcast to em. Ask me how.

This League is podcast for those of you who love the drama of basketball. Check it out on Apple Podcast.

Finally got a Mavic Air 2

I’ve been holding out on ugrading my original Mavic because it did everything I needed until DJI announced the hyper-lapse feature. That sold me and the 750 dollar price point. If you plan to buy this new drone though , i highly recommend buying some variable ND filters. The downside to this drone is that it' has a fixed aperture so you’ll have to stop down the exposure with ND filters cause you can’t change the F stops. Check out some of the footage I got.

Introducing Timid

tim·id - /ˈtimid/ adjective

  1. showing a lack of courage or confidence; easily frightened.

"I was too timid to ask for what I wanted"

Timid is more than a magazine, It’s a platform founded by my good friend Henry Wu. Henry aspires to raise awareness around Asian’s who are doing extraordinary things - the ones breaking the stereotypes of what it means to be asian and embracing their timidness as strength and not weakness. Support him as he dives deeper into this journey.

For this project I helped with naming, language, copy and art direction. Below are moments taken from our shoot. The final edit is above.

Forever Favorite. The Eastern Sierra's

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. You have to be a 100ft from water when you’re camping out there. That’s not us camping there- that’s some strangers breaking the law. I just thought it made for a good composition.

In The Room w/ Gallant

Gallant is one of my favorite singers and I can’t believe I didn’t know he has a collection of remix with other artist called “In The Room” They’re dope af. Here’s a cover of his song Weight Of Gold featuring Seal. Check them out.

NEW HOBO INTRO

There’s an easter egg on the website if you’re browsing on a desktop you’ll be able to see it. I’ll give you a hint, hover over the logo in the header for a surprise. That effect is the reason why I chose to go with this logomark. Its an extensible logo that can accomodate 4 letter words that speak to the things I do besides design. Last week I decided to revisit the animation to play with a new flip-board concept. Check it out.

Montara ca.

Shoutouts to my friend Rob for capturing these. I could decide if I liked the cropped version or wide so I posted both. :)

My First Striped Bass

Yes, I'm saying "ocean fishing" instead of "surf fishing" because I’m not trying to confuse you between surfing and fishing since I do both.

I grew up fishing lakes and never got into ocean fishing because in Portland, Oregon the coast is far AF (2 hours is a lot considering the beach is 20 mins away for me now). I picked up ocean fishing because the waves have been trash and surf been mediocre. I figured the skills between lake vs ocean is translatable, plus I could use my tide knowledge from surfing. So, I invested in a travel rod to fish pre or post surf.

Easing into it, I was targeting perch. I figured they're easier to land and that'll build up my confidence over time and eventually I'd grow into landing stripers. However, this video says different. I landed an 8lb, 27 inch striped bass on my third go. I've been trolling Highway 1 for about 3 days at this point at various tide. This day, I was at nearly peak high tide.

Converse x Neighborhood Riding Shoes

Finally a shoe I can vibe with for riding. They’re not steel toe boots but Neighborhood did a good job with these Chuck Taylor’s. Of course there are odd things like having a shift pad on the right shoe but I’m down with the symmetry. I love the reenforced sole and the extra leather at all the right places. Now the tough question is , do I run black or white laces ?

New TraveL RoD setup

I had a simple goal. Find a portable rod that I can take backpacking or on my motorcycle to fish with. I looked at brands like Sougayilang, Plussino and KaskKing. They all had raving reviews but KaskKing seemed to have highly consistent ones for just a little bit more money. I figured maybe you pay for what you get makes sense in this scenario so I pull the trigger. I’m glad I made the purchase the rods materials and finish feels top notch. Let’s see how it fishes.

Below are two setups:

1. 8ft spinning option paired with a Daiwa BG3000 reel for surf fishing. Total = $150
2. 6ft6 spinning option paired with a Piscifun Carbon X 1000 for lakes and streams. Total = $100
