DUI - Episode 2 : Hector Silva

We’ve postponed the show due to Covid but will be back shortly. Currently looking for a new warehouse space to film in because our current landlord took back the space for a new project.

Check out the second episode here :

"Sweet Potato Pie" with Baker's Son

I’m working on a short video for Keith Magruder aka Baker’s Son. The video will be a portrait into his recent stuff as a watercolor artist working in 3D.
Keith is a pretty private dude. So TBH, I don’t think he’s ever talked about himself or his work publicly. Two birds one stone is the goal - so I’m hoping to capture what fuels him as an artist and help promote the hats he’s dropping next week. Let’s hope I body his project. Stay tune.

For now , here are some behind the scene shots I took on my phone. Video drops next week.

Introducing Timid

tim·id - /ˈtimid/ adjective

  1. showing a lack of courage or confidence; easily frightened.

"I was too timid to ask for what I wanted"

Timid is more than a magazine, It’s a platform founded by my good friend Henry Wu. Henry aspires to raise awareness around Asian’s who are doing extraordinary things - the ones breaking the stereotypes of what it means to be asian and embracing their timidness as strength and not weakness. Support him as he dives deeper into this journey.

For this project I helped with naming, language, copy and art direction. Below are moments taken from our shoot. The final edit is above.

Portability is Key

I'm constantly quoting Chase Jarvis. He says "The best camera, is the one that's always with you." Its True. I take more photos using my iPhone than my micro 4/3. This is why I rarely carry my fancy camera anymore. I wish I did, and I should because It takes amazing photos. But, the convenience of a phone, the built in apps, and these Joby tripods make for an ultra portable, and killer combo.

The Joby Grip Tight, Micro Tripod, and Mini Gorilla Pod pictured above can be found on Amazon. Each costing below 15 dollars, and fit in your pockets. Making them a no brain-er purchase.

"Buy the Gorilla Pod over the Micro Tripod."

I couldn't help myself so I bought both. I'm sorry, the red accents got me. After two weeks of use. It's safe to say. "Buy the Gorilla Pod over the Micro Tripod." The Gorilla Pod is way more versatile. It has magnets in its feet. Allowing you to get more creative with your shots. It contorts into complex positions, where as the micro tripod only sits low and pivots at it's mounting point.

Currently I used both tripod to grab filler time-lapse footage. They're both small and compact, so easy to whip out, and travel with. My main goal are to reduce hand held vibrations, and a clear steady shot. Trust me it makes a world of difference in post editing. If you don't already have a portable tripod for your phone. COP IT NOW.

Lastly. Here's a fun time-lapse using the Gorilla Pod placed over a cooler.

Eyes In The Sky

Here are some photos I took while Unboxing the Phantom 3. All you haters out there, I'm about to have a bird eye view of you. (joke) I'm sure you've seen plenty floating around the web, but these are specially taken by me for you. So enjoy them.

I posted a short video taken from the Phantom a few days ago. Its two post down check it out. I'm so stoked to own this drone, and can't wait to fly it more.  I'd have to boldly say though, but the 4k footage taken from the Phantom 3 Professional is superior over the Hero 4k. Yes, I own both. There is a crispy difference right off the card pre-editing. No, I haven't done any scientific testing yet, and this is purely a human eye test, but that's probably as scientific as most consumers would go. So step it up GoPro. If I'm wrong can someone prove me wrong?

Droning Around

So I learned to fly today.

What I mean, is I bought a DJI Phantom 3 Professional. Thought I'd get into drone filming, it'll definitely add dynamic shots to my videos. Not that I'm a professional or anything, but new angles to add to my boring ass GoPro shots, is a plus.  I'm still super nervous at flying this thing, and currently only comfortable with taking selfies, because it only requires me to go straight up,  then back down. I'm too much of a wimp to push it hard. Don't be fooled by the shitty sweeping shots in the edit above. I freaked out trying to pilot the phantom even to do that. Give me a few weeks though, I'm determined to master this thing.

Enjoy the short edit for Instagram.
