Trip Itinerary :
a. Highway 84 E - Bridge of Gods
b. Columbia Gorge WA - Spirit Falls

While back in Oregon for my pop's birthday weekend I was hoping it was still cold enough to see a bit of snow, some icicles or at least some dew covered plants at Spirit Falls.

Being an Oregon native I've seen most of the state during the Spring and Summer seasons. I've always been a chicken when it comes to cold weather, so I hibernated in the winter playing games. It's not until recently that I became fascinated with the idea of seeing parts of Oregon at the peak of winter. I was inspired when a buddy showed me a photo of Crater Lake frozen, covered in white powder and the water a beautiful turquoise hue. So this year I made a list of places I'd like to see, and Spirit Fall's was one of them. Unfortunately we're at the cusp of spring so excuse the lack of snow photos.

The hike is a short climb down. About 15-20 minutes of scaling a steep and rocky mountain side, and then a 10 minute hike in depending on your pace. Every so often a "Private Property, No Trespassing" sign is posted stating you will be prosecuted in neon green.  After seeing a few of those and some abandoned washing machines covered in bullet holes. A few of us became discouraged, and frankly scared. Don't judge me. Because the trail was unmarked it took longer to find, often we felt lost. Uncertain if we're headed the right way. A good north star is to follow the creek, or the acoustics from the thundering falls as you get closer.  Trust me its worth the scare and the climb.

CALIFORNIA COASTING

I've forgotten how thrilling and free it is to ride as I coast the newly paved roads on Highway 1, I'm reminded how infrequent we inspire our senses. We spend our days in closed boxes. I miss the rich, delicate, earthy smells. The wet gravel from the rain. The sweet oceanic air. The salty seasoning it leaves on your lips. I am free from windows. Free from doors. The Solidarity. The Freedom. I miss the acoustics caused by ther wind, the road and earth harmonizing. I wish you heard it. I hope one day you will. The joy of riding.

c. Highway 1 - Devils Slide Bunker

Chica Locca

woke up super early this morning to join the dudes on the Chica Loca boat to check out Marieta Island. Unfortunately it was too windy near the island so I couldn't get dope shots there. The one time i tried the drone flew straight into me and cut me. Haha. Thats what I get for being stupid. When the wind calmed down though I got some really awesome shots. Here is a short edit. I'll do a longer edit when I'm back in Cali.

Mars Like

Last weekend Colin, Anna and I drove down South to see my buddy David. I needed to grab my groomsmen suit for his wedding, so I thought, why not squeeze in a short hike in the desert and ATV'ing at the dunes while we're down there. I haven't gotten around to editing photos at the dunes, but enjoy the ones taken in the desert. The moon came out to play.

HIGHWAY 101 FINALE

It is now 2 in the morning and the moment you've been waiting for. I spent the weekend sorting through 90 gig of footage, 2 Micheladas, 6 beers and 5 milk teas. I'm excited to present to you the final cut of my "Highway 101 Adventures." I'm also excited because this marks the completion of my vacation post Matter and a beginning to Playground. I start 10AM sharp. Good Night.

Please share and enjoy. Leave a comment below if you're curious about the places I visit.

Highway 101 Adventures

If you've been following I recently left Matter and will be starting at Playground soon. Before starting I took some time off to reset, visit family & friends in Portland, and explore Highway 101. It's crazy to think that I've grown up in the Northwest and have yet to drive either up or down the 101. I figured this is the perfect time for this.

I left San Francisco pretty late so the chances of snapping awesome photos were slim. I figure I'd snap some on my way back to the Bay. Good news is my friend Anna Lee joined me for the ride up. She's an awesome co-pilot, provided good conversation and music. We drove through the night to meet up with my best friend  Ethan Vu at his coastal house. Search these coordinates 44.8436° N, -124.0496° W to see where we ended up.

One thing to note. Although the drive up was dark I could still make out the silhouettes of massive redwood trees lining the road like skyscrapers. I can only imagine what they're like during the day. I can't wait to take photos on the way back.

Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of Ethan's beach house. But, I'm posting the photos I did manage to squeeze in.  Enjoy them.

Good Weather, Good People

The joy of writing on this blog is that it's my personal thing, and I cannot give a fuck!! Unlike Creative Session, I can touch on topics beyond design, and be more intimate about my life and thoughts.  Really, HOBO is meant to be an excuse for me to get out of the house and away from the computer. To be in good company and enjoy nature because I work too much. #naturesdistractions

Let me begin by apologizing for the fact that I'm ten blog posts deep and still haven't taken a proper HOBO trip. I had imagined it was as easy as strapping Bentley into a baby carriage and riding my motorcycle out to some awesome location. Film the whole experience, then make an adventure video. That was the romanticized version of HOBO. In reality I'm ill-prepared. I don't have proper equipment and I foolishly modified my Bonneville (not expecting HOBO to happen) into a more racing stance bike. Sorry guys, give me sometime to reconfigure.

Bent and I joined some friends to camp and swim out east last weekend. The sun was blazing and the water, refreshing. I made a short video of us swimming in the lake. I realized if I modify the formula for my HOBO trips, that any blog posting that includes either me, Bentley or the motorcycle is still a valid HOBO trip. I'm opening my self up to variety.  I added the coordinates to where we were, lets see if you can figure it out.
